Australian Labradoodles are a popular choice for families looking for a new pet, especially those with young children. They’re also great for those who suffer from allergies.
Our Australian Labradoodle puppies in Maryland make great additions to any home for several reasons:
With over a decade of experience in dog breeding, Minstrel Labradoodles is an AKC-registered and Australian Labradoodle Club of America (ALCA)-certified breeder of authentic Australian Labradoodle puppies in Maryland. Our puppies don’t come from breeding a Labrador with a Poodle; we breed authentic Australian Labradoodles with other authentic Australian Labradoodles. Their parents had to pass eight genetic tests before they could be registered and bred. So if you’re looking for pure-bred Australian Labradoodle puppies in and around Maryland, you’ve come to the right place.
1. How is an Australian Labradoodle different from other labradoodles?
All Labradoodles are known for their trainability, loyal and loving nature, and beautiful, hypoallergenic coats. When people think of Labradoodles, they’re generally thinking of the American Labradoodle.
The American Labradoodle’s ancestry consists of only two pure-bred breeds: Labradors and Poodles.
Unlike the American Labradoodle, Australian Labradoodles have up to six pure-bred breeds infused into their ancestry, and they are:
At Minstrel Labradoodles, our Australian Labradoodle puppies in Maryland are purebreds, which means they are the carefully planned result of breeding multi-generational Australian Labradoodles to multi-generational Australian Labradoodles. This process means that our Australian Labradoodle puppies in Maryland are consistent in appearance and temperament.
With American Labradoodles, there tends to be more of a variety in appearance and temperament because they are the direct result of crossing two different pure breeds.
All Labradoodles, whether American or Australian, are highly intelligent, lively, and energetic dogs great for families. Both varieties, like all dogs, require socialization and training along with plenty of activities and games to keep them from getting hyperactive.
However, if you’re looking for a slightly calmer pup, Australian Labradoodles tend to be more controlled in temperament than the American variety.
2. How big do Australian Labradoodles get?
There are three size classifications for Australian Labradoodles. Adult miniature Australian Labradoodles can grow between 13 to 16 inches in height and weigh 15 to 30 pounds. Medium adults typically reach between 17 and 20 inches in height and weigh 30 to 50 pounds. Finally, standard adults are 21 to 24 inches in height and generally weigh between 50 and 70 pounds.
3. Is an Australian Labradoodle suitable for a family with small children and/or other pets?
Australian Labradoodles are known for their sweet, good-natured, and loyal disposition. They are affectionate and love to play, so they are a perfect choice if you have children in your household. Although they have a lot of energy, they’re very gentle while playing because they’re calmer and more controlled than other Labradoodles.
Australian Labradoodles also get along well with other animals. If you have other pets in your household, they will fit right in. Their friendly nature ensures that they’ll socialize well with other dogs if you take them to a dog park.
4. I live in an Apartment. Are Australian Labradoodles suitable for apartment living?
While the standard size Australian Labradoodle can grow to be over 21 inches and weigh upwards of 50 pounds, they can live in an apartment just fine, provided that they get some exercise. Because this breed has a lot of energy, they need regular activity to keep them from getting restless and bored. For example, if you walk your Australian Labradoodle in the morning before you leave for work, they’ll be calmer and spend most of the day resting.
If you don’t have much space in your apartment, consider getting a smaller-sized Australian Labradoodle. The smallest is the miniature Australian Labradoodle, which grows between 13 to 16 inches and weighs between 15 and 30 pounds. The next size up is the medium Australian Labradoodle, and they grow between 17 and 20 inches and weigh between 30 and 50 pounds. Regardless of the size of the dog you bring home, it’s important to remember that they will need regular exercise to keep them healthy and prevent them from getting restless.
5. How much activity do Australian Labradoodles need?
Caring for your dog includes providing them with physical activity. Physical activity not only burns off excess energy, preventing unwanted behaviors like chewing or jumping, but it also keeps them physically and mentally healthy. That being said, Australian Labradoodles need low to moderate exercise as adults. For example, they enjoy walking and, at minimum, will need to be walked 1-2 times daily for 30-40 minutes each walk.
Avoid taking puppies under a year old on runs and having them go up and down staircases. You can train puppies around 16 weeks old to walk on a leash with you by starting gradually and progressing over time. As a suggestion, short walks on a leash up and down your block are an excellent place to start. If you have a backyard, they can also get additional exercise by playing in your house and yard.
Other activities you can do with your Australian Labradoodle to help them positively release energy include playing fetch and taking them to the dog park, where they can run around with other dogs. Keep your dog mentally active by providing different toys to play with when indoors. Rotating toys will keep them interesting to your pup.
